Bursary Description
The roots of Starke Ayres could be traced back to 1896 when Charles Starke began grain as well as produce companies, which later merged to shape Starke Ayres (Pty) Ltd in 1920. As of today, the Company specializes in the supply of flower seeds, vegetable seeds, and lawn seed for commercial as well as home use. It has more than 130 years of experience and the Starke Ayres prides itself on the production of high-quality seeds, with the best germination purity and capability. The Company provides outstanding after-sales service as well by helping farmers to grow products that are worth selling. The Company also happens to be involved in retail by supplying seeds, chemical products, and soluble fertilizers to home gardeners as well as farmers. Its secondary business is retail.
This year, the Company wishes to help outstanding students who lack financial means to pursue their tertiary studies through the Starke Ayres bursary program 2019. This award call is aimed to help tertiary students with strong academic records. Bursaries are available within the following study programs:
BSC in:
- Genetics
- Soil Science
- Plant Breeding
- Plant Production
- Plant Science
The award will consist of coverage for the following expenses: tuition fees, registration fees, prescribed books, and accommodation in residence (to a max. value amounting to R 37 500 annually). The award can be renewed each year, depending on the students’ academic performance.
Eligibility criteria
In order to be fully eligible for the Starke Ayres bursary program 2019, interested candidates must satisfy the following requirements. Note that, failure to meet all these criteria will inevitably result in your application not being considered.
- Candidates must be South African citizens and have completed matric
- Candidates must be studying as full-time students towards a qualification in one of the programs mentioned above
- Candidates must have completed their first year of study. In other words, applicants must be applying for the bursary from the second year onwards.
- Candidates must be studying at a recognized University in South Africa
