South African Weather Service Bursary 2019

South African youths who wish to pursue a career in the field of climate change and weather service can apply for the SAWS or South African Weather Service Bursary 2019 to receive funding support to complete their Bachelors of Science degree. Qualified students will also be required to take up employment at SAWS as well which might be the perfect stepping stone to bigger things in your career!

Information

SAWS was established in 2001. This public entity operates under the governmental Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and is also an authoritative voice for climate and weather forecasting in South Africa. The organisation conforms to global meteorological standards for it is also a member of the WMO (World Meteorological Organisation). SAWS also provides weather services to the aviation, marine as well as various other industry clients. This year, the organisation intends to encourage students with a passion to pursue a career in climate change and weather service to apply for the South African Weather Service Bursary 2019 and study towards a Bachelor of Science in one of the following fields:

  • Meteorology
  • Agro-meteorology
  • Air Quality
  • Atmospheric Science
  • Climatology

Qualified incumbents will be awarded with coverage for registration and tuition costs. Students will also be granted with a monthly allowance. Upon completion of the study, students will be presented with the opportunity to work for the organisation for the same amount of time as they have been awarded the bursary.

Entry Requirements

Interested candidates must make sure they are fully eligible for this bursary call prior to submitting an application so that they know for sure that their applications will be regarded. Failure in satisfying the criteria below will result in your submission being disqualified.

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must have achieved result of at least 70% for physical science and maths in Matric
  • Must intend on studying or be studying as a full time student in one of the aforementioned fields (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or Honours year)

Application Procedure

Applications will be accepted no later than October 26, 2018. Candidates must obtain and complete the application form as well as mention the reference number of this post on this form (REF.WS11/10/2018). Please include the following important materials on your application as well:

  • Certified copy of ID document, and matric certificate
  • For current tertiary students, please include certified copy of your academic record/transcript
  • Certified copies of any achievements or merit certificates (if any)
  • Proof of registration or letter of confirmation from the University
  • A one page motivation letter or cover letter
