Reserve Bank Bursary Program for South African Students

Individuals who are currently in Matric or have completed Matric who wish to pursue higher qualification in Commerce are welcomed to apply for the Reserve Bank Bursary Program for South African Students. Bursary Overview

SARB (the South African Reserve Bank) is a central bank in South Africa whose primary goal is to maintain price steadiness for sustainable economic development in South Africa. Founded in 1921, this bank is responsible for ensuring that the financial system, money and banking in South Africa meets the community requirements and stay update with the global development along with providing support to the South African government with data for macroeconomic policy. The bursary is available for the following study programs:

  • Law
  • Actuarial Science
  • Business Science
  • Economics
  • Accounting

The successful candidates will receive up to R 95,000 annually. Furthermore, students will also be able to join in the vacation work. This will be based on availability in the company. Upon completion of the study, recipients of the Reserve Bank Bursary Program for South African Students will also take up work at the South African Reserve Bank in the Graduate Development Program for the entire period equals to the bursary that has been awarded.

Entry Requirements

In order to be eligible, you must meet the following entry criteria. Failure in fulfilling these requirements will result in your application being disregarded.

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be younger than 30 years old
  • Must be in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Must intend on studying as a full time students in one of the aforementioned study programs at a recognised higher institution in South Africa
  • Must have achieved at least overall average of 70% for current study year of study
  • Accounting degree applicants must have achieved at least level 6 for Maths in Matric
  • Must have proven financial need

Please provide clear copies of the supporting documents mentioned below as part of the application requirements. The submission of these documents are mandatory and any missing items will lead to disqualification.

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of matric June results for current matric applicants
  • Certified copy of matric certificate for applicants who have completed matric
  • Evidence of acceptance to study at a recognised tertiary institution
  • A motivational essay (about 250 word count)
