If you have the passion to become a professional and expert artisan, then you may want to consider the opportunity provided by the Western Cape Government through their Department of Transport and Public Works with their Artisan Apprenticeship 2020. They are providing a training program as apprentices in production, maintenance, technical design, and operation services in their technical college as well as apprentice training school – with strict monitoring and supervision of a professional and skilled artisan.
About the Program
The Artisan Apprenticeship 2020 program in created because the government understands the difficulty and the challenge of getting professional and skilled workers. Not all workers have the skilled needed for the job. And even if they have, not all of them are professional. Through this program, they want to address the shortage of work force by creating reliable, professional, and skilled people to take part in the industrial sector.
For the program, the offered subjects are for Diesel Mechanic for Maintenance and Construction. There are also apprentice programs offered for the position of Fitter and Turner. Through the program, it is expected that candidates will gain the improved quality and skills so they can give back to the company or the society.
The Requirements
All apprenticeship programs have their own standard of qualifications and measurements. This Artisan Apprenticeship 2020 program does too. Candidates who want to qualify and considered eligible for this program need to meet these general requirements, such as:
- The candidates need to be the citizens of South Africa
- They must be less than 21 years old
- They must have completed Matric and have the certificate
- They must have a Technical Matric certificate (the N stream) with Science and Mathematics as the passed subjects
- They must not have any criminal record
- They must be willing to be located in Bellville, Cape Town, as the positions are open for the area
- They must have good health and be able to perform demanding physical tasks
How to Apply
Interested candidates can perform manual application by downloading the Z83 application form first. They can download it here. Once they have filled it out, they can submit it by accompanying the form with the supporting documents. The supporting documents are:
- a certified copy of ID document
- a certified copy of Matric certificate
- a comprehensive and updated CV – maximum 5 pages
- certified copies of qualifications
- be advised that the certified copies must not be older than 3 months
When they submit the application form, make sure to write down clearly the reference number along with the desired post that they are applying for. Submission can be done in 2 ways:
- By post to Private Bag X2, Kasselsvlei, 7533
- By hand delivery to Bellville Mechanical Workshop, Robert Sobukwe Road, Bellville. The period of submission is between 8 AM and 4 PM
