Independent Police Investigative Directorate is now seeking a suitable candidate to fill in the Principal Investigator vacancy at IPID. Interested candidates are required to quote the reference number within their application form, Q9/2018/39.

Job Details

Future incumbent will receive a salary amounting to R 356 289 per annum. Note that the notch will be higher than what’s advertised in accordance with Section 23 of the IPID Act. The position is situated in Gauteng and to be eligible for the position, candidates must be in possession of a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate. This qualification must be accompanied by five years of proven working experience in the field of criminal investigation in order to be considered for this position. Additionally, having previous supervisory experience is also essential. Should you be in possession of a national diploma or a degree in policing or law, it would serve as an added bonus.

Below are the knowledge and skills requirements for the Principal Investigator vacancy at IPID:

  • Knowledge of Criminal Procedure and Law of Evidence, and Criminal law
  • Have a valid code 8 driver’s license
  • Ability to drive the motor vehicle in said class of driver’s license
  • Be fit and competent to handle a firearm

Key performance areas:

  • Monitor senior investigators by giving guidance on the investigation of complaints in accordance with the IPID’s legislative imperative as well as Standard Operating Procedure
  • Register, receive and allocate cases
  • Attend crime scenes and post mortems
  • Protect, gather and process displays at crime scenes
  • Render interviews with witnesses and suspects and obtain affidavits
  • Manage stakeholders
  • Render investigations of cases of alleged misconduct and criminality against members of the police
  • Render seizures, searches and collect evidence
  • Gather investigation reports as well as memoranda with recommendations to the director of the public prosecutions and the SAPS for the sake of consideration to take appropriate disciplinary action or prosecute
  • Type and draft investigation report at the conclusion of all investigation
  • Electronically update the status of all cases on the database
