Job Description

Kumba Iron Ore wishes to increase mining employability in order for the community to progress. Kumba Iron Ore is an African supplier of high quality iron ore to both local and global markets. Its biggest operations are remotely situated in the Northern Cape. As a matter of fact, it is the largest employer in the Northern Cape Province right after the government. Kumba strives to make a meaningful as well as engaging workplace. This year, individuals are invited to apply for the Artisan and Admin Learnership at Kumba Iron Ore in which the successful applicants will be stationed at Kumba Iron Ore, Sishen Mine, Northern Cape. Should you be interested, it is mandatory that you provide a certificate or a statement of result in the event of the certificate have yet to be issued. Note that progress report will not be considered. Certificate must have information of the following subjects:

  • Millwright: at least N2 with engineering science, maths, electrical trade and fitting, industrial electronics, and machining trade theory as subjects
  • Management assistant: at least N6 with communication, office practice, information processing, as well as computer practice as subjects
  • Welder/plater: at least N2 with engineering science, maths, plating and structural steel drawings and plater’s theory as subjects

Preference for this learnership will be given to WIM and HDSA.

The successful applicants will receive allowance or stipend every month as well as learnership agreement. Candidates who come from outside Kathu will also receive subsidised meals and accommodation. Moreover, the qualified incumbents will also get free PPE as well as experiental or training learning. The qualified applicant for artisan learnership will also get artisan trade-related tool box which will become the candidates’ property later on upon the completion of the program.

Training Program for Admin Learner

  • Candidates will have 18 months of experiental learning at Sishen Mine

Training programs for Artisan Learner

  • Year one: candidates will undergo institutional training at Sivos, Techinical Training Centre, Sishen Mine
  • Year two: candidates will conduct core/on the job training at Sishen Mine
  • Year three: candidates will finish trade test
