Description

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) was established in 1912 and was initially called the Department of Irrigation. The department is responsible for the water resources of the country, especially for implementing and formulating policies within the sector. The department of Water and Sanitation aims to make sure that South Africans have access to sanitation services and clean water along with water resources management for ensuring social and sustainable economic growth in the country. The Department of Water and Sanitation Bursary program for South African students is available for students pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in the following fields:

Undergraduate:

  • Project Management (BSc)
  • Civil Engineering (BSc/ BEng/ National Diploma)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc/ BEng/ National Diploma)
  • Electrical Engineering (BSc/ BEng/ National Diploma)
  • Hydrology (BSc)
  • Geohydrology (BSc)
  • Water Economics (BSc)
  • Environmental Sciences (BSc)
  • Environmental and Water Sciences (BSc)
  • Water Care (National Diploma)
  • Environmental Management (National Diploma)
  • Biochemistry (National Diploma)
  • Environmental Management (BSc)
  • Land Surveying (National Diploma)

 

Postgraduate

  • Hydrology (BSc (Hons))
  • Civil Engineering (BSc/ BEng (Hons))
  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc/ BEng (Hons))
  • Geohydrology (BSc (Hons))
  • Environmental Management (BSc (Hons))
  • Water Economics (BSc (Hons))

The qualified students will receive bursary that will cover tuition fees, registration fees, accommodation, prescribed books, a personal allowance and meals. Upon completion, students will be required the Water Learning Academy for 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Currently or completed matric
  • Intend to or currently studying full time in one of the aforementioned programs
  • Intend to or currently studying at one of the higher institution listed here
  • have excellent academic results
  • proven financial need

Application Procedure

The deadline for this bursary is on August 31st 2018

Students must download and complete the application form. Furthermore, your application must be attached with the following supporting documents:

  • certified copy of ID document
  • certified copies of Grade 11 final results for matric students or matric certificate if you have completed matric
  • certified copy of full tertiary academic record to date for university students
  • proof of university acceptance /firm offer/ application for new students
  • proof of parents/guardians’ income (affidavit if unemployed/latest payslips if employed or SASSA grant letter
