All positions offer a level five salary amounting to R 163 563 annually. Candidates must hold a Grade 12 certificate with finance related subjects in order to be considered for the Finance Clerk vacancies at Department of Defence. Furthermore, it is required that applicants possess the following skills:

  • Ability in interpreting, understanding and correctly applying of financial prescripts and policy
  • Basic knowledge of accounting and financial processes
  • Basic knowledge of contract management or State Tender Board regulations as well as supply chain management process
  • Sound knowledge of Treasury Regulations and the public Finance Management as well as knowledge of Financial Management Systems
  • Computer literacy in MS Office software packages
  • Persevering and decisive in terms of task finalisation
  • Ability to liaise effectively and communicate with clients
  • The future successful incumbents will be required to complete all relevant courses and therefore, candidates must be willing to go through training at Finance Education, Training and Development Centre
  • Willing to work with cashier, in Rand as well as Foreign currency
  • Willing to be detached to Satellite Offices across geographical boundaries
  • Willing to help with general archiving/filing/safekeeping of all accounting documentation and general administrative functions

If you have post matric qualification in finance, a valid RSA driver’s license and at least one year of relevant experience, they would all serve as an added advantage.


  • Verify, scrutinise, register as well as couple medical and supplier invoices for payment
  • Apply prescriptions, policy and regulations strictly
  • Report and detect on all irregularities
  • Be responsible for safekeeping of payment and any other accounting documentation for the sake of audit
  • Employ the Financial Management System to record all accounting transactions on a regular basis and do enquiries
  • Conduct cashier duties by paying out of cash advances
  • Administer claims on the CAS and capture all related accounting transactions on the FMS
  • Record, safekeep and issue FVD as well as update the FVD system
  • Confirm all TELKOM accounts
  • Administer PMG (paymaster General) account deposits
  • Assist with general administration and accounting functions at the FASC
