Job Description

The successful applicant will be working at the Department of Defence in Pretoria. This job offers a level 7 salary which amounts to R 242 475 per annum. The minimum requirement for the Finance Clerk Supervisor at the Department of Defence is Grade 12 certificate. This qualification must be accompanied by a 6 year working experience in the relevant field and a minimum of 3 year experience in State Funded Education, Training and Development in contract administration. However, should you be in possession of a 3 year national diploma in Human Resources, Finance, Public Administration or Law, it would serve as an added bonus.

This position requires all applicants to have the following skills and knowledge:

  • Understanding and knowledge of PFMA, Public Service Act, Treasury Regulations as well as Prescription Act
  • Problem solving skills and analytical thinking ability
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to draft
  • Presentation skills
  • Ability to compile letters, reports, minutes and submission
  • Ability to draft and work documents in MS Package like Access, Word and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Good interpersonal relations
  • Receptive to work related ideas or suggestions and persevering or decisive in respect of task finalization
  • Have a valid driver’s license. This is not compulsory but would serve as a strong recommendation for it would be required to obtain a military driving license in a year
  • Ability to obtain security clearance in a year (confidential)

This job will have the successful incumbent to be involved in but not limited to the following duties:

  • Conduct general office tasks
  • Registering and receiving contracts for state funded studies, formal and any other service contracts
  • Process and evaluate reimbursement applications from Divisions and Services
  • Analyze the study contracts for compliance with legislative framework
  • Update and capture contracts on the system
  • Submit and verify contracts for endorsement
  • Submit and compile reports to management every month
  • Maintain the archive and filling system
  • Supervise junior officials
  • Help with training of subordinate and new appointees under your direct supervision
  • Ensure and monitor compliance to prevailing regulatory work
  • Help with the execution and coordination of administrative tasks
  • Attends meetings when necessary
  • Handle enquiries and queries from divisions and services
  • Liaise with role players and other stakeholders
