Bursary Overview

The Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust program was founded by the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation as a way to assist outstanding students who come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds and would otherwise not be able to pursue their study without the bursary. This award call is aimed at students who demonstrate strong academic results and strong interest to pursue any field of study of their choice.

The Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust bursary program 2019 is available to all qualified students to attend any study programs, provided that their studies will not exceed the five year timeframe. The bursary will provide coverage that is based on students’ individual needs. It will typically include the following: accommodation, meals, living expense allowance (if motivated), tuition fees, prescribed books as well as any other study materials.

Suitability

In order to be fully eligible for this call, candidates must fulfil the following minimum entry criteria prior to applying. Note that if you fail to meet all these conditions, you will not be considered.

  • Candidates must be South African citizens and between 16 and 30 years of age
  • Candidates must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Candidates must have applied to study or be studying towards a bachelor’s degree qualification and not a postgraduate qualification at an accredited and recognised institution in South Africa
  • Empathetic ability
  • Leadership skills
  • Proven financial need
  • Strong developmental communication skills
  • Strong academic record

Candidates who are studying towards scarce and essential skills will be given preference (per the Department of Labour, SETAs as well as economic and labour advisors)

How to Apply

Any interested candidates must commence their application by completing an application form. Then, submit your application form with clear copies of the following important documents. Note that, any missing items will result in the disregarding of your application.

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of matric mid-year results for current matric applicants or final results and matric mid-year results if finished matric
  • Certified copies of ID documents of parents/guardians
  • Proof of income of parents/guardians (certified copy of payslips if employed or grant or pension if applicable)
  • Testimonial issued by a community official or an educator
  • A motivational essay outlining your reason why you deserve this bursary along with the support you expect to receive from this program and life values
