Allan Gray Bursary Program for the Future Entrepreneurs

Students who want to continue their study to a higher degree can consider joining Allan Gray bursary to help them with the finance. The bursary is meant to support the financially unfortunate students so they can have a better education that can lead to a better career and also better future.

About the Program

Allan Gray founded Allan Gray Foundation and the bursary program in 2005 as a part of his contribution to the society and the country. He wanted to help students who want to be future entrepreneurs in South Africa. Allan Gray Foundation got its funds from the tax profits of Allan Gray’s Limited. The Foundation is operating in 4 different countries in Africa, such as Botswana, Swaziland, Namibia, and South Africa.

The Allan Gray bursary program has the purpose to provide the funds and financial supports for students who dream of studying at the university level. The program is also meant to support and provide development for potential students who have entrepreneurial passion and mindset.

The bursary program is offering some of these subjects:

  • Commerce
  • Humanities
  • Engineering
  • Health Science, but not including Veterinary Science, Dentistry, and Medicine
  • Science
  • Law

The bursary will cover prescribed books, meals, tuition fees, monthly living stipends, university accommodation, and tutor allowance.

The Requirements

  • They must be the citizens of South African who is under21 years old
  • They must be currently in Grade 12
  • They must get at least level 5 Mathematics HG in the final of Grade 11
  • They must get at least a minimum level 6 average in Grade 11 finals
  • They must have strong entrepreneurial minds or leadership qualities

How to Apply

There are several ways for candidates to apply for the program:

The hardcopy documents can be submitted in these ways:

  • If you send it by post, you can send it to Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, Freepost no.CB 11349, Kloof Street, Cape Town 8008
  • If you want to have a hand delivery method, you can go to 46 Hof Street, Oranjezicht Cape Town or you can go to 8th Floor Florum Building, 2 Maude Street, Sandton Johannesburg

Besides the application form, you need to have the supporting documents, including:

  • A certified copy of ID document
  • A certified copy of the Final Academic Record Grade 10
  • A certified copy of the Final Academic Record Grade 11
  • A certified copy of the Final Academic Record Grade 12
  • Certified copies of extra-curricular awards, recognition, or academic that is received in Grade 10, 11, or 12.
  • A passport size of recent photo
  • A reference from an educator. It should be signed, stamped, and then sealed within a separate envelope

Be advised to pay attention to the application details. The process for high school applicants and the university students is different. The deadline is also different from those different types of applicants.
