African Scholars’ Fund Bursary Program for South African Students

South African youths who wish to pursue N1 – N6 qualifications or practical courses at a FET College and are unable to fulfil their financial obligations can now apply for the African Scholars’ Fund bursary program for South African students. Bursary Details

The African Scholars’ Fund was established when there was a vital need for quality education during the apartheid era. As of today, this organisation provides financial support for learners coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and poor families so they can pursue secondary school as well as have access to TVET college education.

The fund program provided by the African Scholars’ Fund is intended to help by way of monetary donations towards students’ uniform, transport or general school costs. This foundation does not merely provide financial assistance, they also provide mentoring, motivation as well as nurturing to the qualified bursars until they have successfully completed their studies. Furthermore, the African Scholars’ Fund are completely focused on students’ wellbeing by providing feedback and monitoring on their academic progress by way of keeping contact with the students on a regular basis. The African Scholars’ Fund bursary program for South African students will grant qualified applicants within all study programs who pursue their studies towards N1 – N6 qualifications and particular practical courses at a FET College. The recipients will receive coverage for the course fees as well as registration fees.

Suitability Criteria

Interested applicants must first ensure they satisfy all the minimum eligibility criteria stipulated below. Failure to meet all the requirements will result in your application being disregarded.

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must not be older than 25 years old
  • Must have completed at least Grade 10 Maths and Science
  • Must be a current full time student or intend on studying as a full time student at a FET College
  • Applicants who are current college students must have achieved at least average of 50% for every tests and exams they have completed

To Apply for the Program

To apply, students must complete an application form along with attaching the following documents within their applications. Submission of all these documents are compulsory and if there is any missing item, your application will not be taken into consideration during evaluation by the committee.

  • Certified copy of ID document and matric certificate/matric report
  • Prior college exam statements of results and current class test results (for applicants who are current college students
  • Proof of income of parents/guardians (death certificate if deceased/latest payslips/pension receipts/affidavit for unemployed parents or guardians)
  • A letter of motivation outlining your reason why you deserve the award as well as your household circumstances (must be in your own handwriting)
  • Self-addressed and stamped envelope
