This fund scheme is aimed at future innovative programmers with a vision and a passion for ensuring dynamic outputs in areas of ongoing change.

Description

The company was established in 1979 in a small town in South Africa through the acquisition of up to eight Supermarkets based in Cape Town. As of today, the Shoprite Group operates 270 stores all across Africa as well as the Indian Ocean Islands. This year, the company is pleased to announce the Shoprite Bursary Program for Matric and University students for students with a desire to work for one of the biggest retail companies in South Africa. This program provides you with a lifetime opportunity for you can grow and learn about a various inspirational brands. This funding program is targeted at students who are in their first, second and third year.

The bursary is available for the following study programs:

  • Pharmacy
  • Logistics
  • Accounting
  • Hospitality or retail management
  • Information technology

Successful students will receive a total amount of R 45,000 up to R 70,000. The amount is subject to the course of study you are taking and the institution you are enrolled in. The bursary is intended to cover tuition fees, an allowance for accommodation as well as prescribed books.

It is important to note that there is a compulsory work-back requirement, meaning that for every year that students are covered by the award, they must work at Shoprite for the same amount of time.

Suitability Criteria

Candidates who are eligible for this bursary call are those who:

  • Are currently in matric and have achieved at least average of 70% in their first semester, or
  • Are currently studying at a university in one of the following programs and have achieved at least average of 60% in their first semester:
  • Logistics [studying towards a BComm in Logistics (quantitative management) or BSc in operational research/equivalent]
  • Accounting (BCompt or Bachelors of Accounting, qualifying for a registered articles program and leading to CTA
  • Pharmacy (Bachelors in Pharmacy)
  • Information technology (BSc in Statistics/Computer Science/Data Science/Mathematical Science)
  • Hospitality or Retail Management (national diploma in professional cookery/hospitality management/retail business or related field)

Please submit the following documents as part of the application.

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Latest tertiary academic record for candidates who are at tertiary level
  • Matric certificate for candidates who have completed matric
  • Latest matric results for candidates who are currently in matric

It is candidates’ responsibility to ensure submission for the Shoprite Bursary Program for Matric and University students is done no later than September 30, 2018 as no late application will be regarded.
