The program is offered to potential students who are driven and committed about continuing their study to a higher degree and completing the program as best as they can. Students who are coming from financially struggling families or poor families are always encouraged to apply. If they meet the requirements, they can get the financial support and help that they need to move forward.
About the Program
SERITI is a South African company with the main purpose of creating growth and empowering equality to all. The company consists of 91% black-owned shares and they provide a supply to Eskom, the State-owned power utility in South Africa. Through their mines in New Denmark, New Vaal, and Kriel, SERITI is able to provide 24 Mtpa (consisting of thermal coal) to Eskom.
The company creates this SERITI bursary program so they can give back to the community. They are passionate about having a solid investment in the education sector, especially to further the growth of skilled people. The idea is to support top and talented students to get the tertiary education (they need) within any study field that they are interested in.
The Requirements
All bursary programs have their own policies and standard measurement. The same thing also happens to this SERITI bursary program. There are some general and basic requirements that all candidates need to meet for this program. The requirements are:
- The candidates must be the citizens of South Africa that is proven by valid and legal ID documentation
- They must be either Matric leavers, in Matric currently, or studying toward an undergraduate degree
- They must complete Matric and have the certificate, for those who have completed Matric
- They must be in the final year in Matric
- They must get at least 60% to 69% average score in Matric
- They must have the intention to study within an accredited and credible institution
How to Apply
To be considered eligible for this program, you need to send your ID, a complete and comprehensive CV, and an application letter to graduate@studentvillage.co.za before the deadline. These documents must be accompanied with complete supporting documents that consist of:
- A certified copy of ID document
- A certified copy of Matric certificate
- Certified copies of qualifications or transcripts
All of these supporting documents need to valid and new – at least not more than 3 months old. Also be advised that the failure to meet at least one of these documents may lead to your application not being regarded. It may lead to your application being rejected.
Only shortlisted candidates may be contacted so the institution can make a further appointment. Communication is done only with the shortlisted candidates. Those who haven’t been contacted within 30 days after the deadline should consider their application to be unsuccessful.
The program may be available on a yearly basis. Although the general deadline usually takes place in November, the opening and closing date may change from year to year. It would be wise if you can have a regular check to the official website to see the SERITI bursary availability, the opening date, and also the closing date.
