This vacant position offers an attractive level 12 salary that is worth R 826 053 annually (all inclusive package). In order to be eligible for this job, all interested candidates must fulfil the minimum educational requirement which is a Senior Certificate coupled with a Government Certificate of Competency in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering. This qualification should also be accompanied by appropriate experience in the Mine Health and Safety Inspectorate or Mining Industry.

Additionally, the Senior Inspector of Mines vacancy at Department of Mineral Resources also requires applicants to have the following competencies and skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Deep knowledge of mine equipment used on all types of surface, mines and underground
  • Knowledge of boilers, winders, chairlifts and elevators
  • Sound knowledge of Labour relations and human resources
  • Leading, planning and organisation skills
  • High level management risk assessment skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally at all levels to public and mine officials on the Mine Health and Safety Act along with matters regarding types of mine equipment used in the mining industry
  • Ability to analyse workload as well as work related issues and to draft and apply a strategy to ensure an improvement
  • Creativity

Key Performance Areas:

  • Enforce adherence to the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (act number 29 of 1996)
  • Render audits and inspections
  • Render inquiries and investigations into incidents and accidents
  • Provide inputs on regional action plans to develop strategies needed to monitor legal compliance by mines
  • Provide support and assistance in the promotion of health and safety in the mining industry
  • Play a role in the formulation of health and safety legislation, guidelines and other regulatory mechanisms
  • Take part in tripartite structures and develop strategies toward the promotion of tripartism in the mining industry
  • Handle the regional offices and office controls
  • Develop and support a transformation process in the regional office
  • Support, manage, train and supervise subordinates
