Job Overview

Please include the reference number of this post, DMR/19/0013, within your application form should you be interested in applying. The successful incumbent will be entitled to a level 11 salary which is worth R 697 011 annually (also all inclusive package). The hiring department requires all applicants to hold at least a matric certificate along with a certificate in Mine Environmental Control to be eligible. This qualification must be accompanied by a valid code 8 driver’s license plus the following skills and competencies:

  • Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Legal Hazard Identification and Risk Management Public Staff Code
  • Sound knowledge of and understanding in labour relations and HRM
  • High level management skills
  • Risk assessment techniques
  • Conflict resolutions
  • Negotiations, organising and planning skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in such a way that the professionalism and image of the department is enhanced
  • Innovative and creative

Once you are qualified for the Inspector of Mines vacancy at Department of Mineral Resources, you will be involved in, but not limited to the following key performance areas:

  • Adhere to and enforce the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (Act No 29, 1996)
  • Conduct inspections and statistical analysis on different mines based on the performance as well as Health and Safety statistics prioritising high risk mining
  • Analyse occupational hygiene reports
  • Give appropriate instructions and write report for remedial actions to be implemented
  • Investigate mine related, complaints and contraventions as well as analyse mine accidents and trends to decide high risk mines and take appropriate actions
  • Render surface, shaft, and underground audits and inspections on occupational hygiene matters at mines and give appropriate verbal and written instructions
  • Consult, investigate and make recommendations to different department on closure certificate, mining rights and permits, prospecting rights, EMP’s and township development
  • Compile report by giving relevant inputs to head of branch on matter related to Hygiene in the region
