The future qualified incumbent will be entitled to a level 11 salary which is worth R 697 011 per annum (all inclusive package). The vacant position is available in the Free State region, Welkom. In order to be eligible for this job, candidates must fulfil the minimum educational requirement which is a Grade 12 certificate. This qualification should be accompanied by a Mine Environmental Control certificate coupled with proper experience in the mining industry. Applicants with Intermediate Certificate are welcome to apply as well.

The aforementioned requirements must be accompanied by the following skills and competencies:

  • Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations as well as Legal proceedings
  • Knowledge of Labour Relations and Human Resource Act
  • Understanding of the department’s policies for optimal utilisation of mineral resources
  • Ability to apply and interpret Mine Health and Safety Act

  • Ability to recommend mining engineering solutions

Job Desks:

The Inspector of Mines vacancy at Department of Mineral Resources comes with the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee compliance to Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996, including inspections, audits and investigations on problems related to Occupational hygiene
  • Investigate Mine related contraventions, accidents and complaints along with analysing mine accidents and trends to decide high risk mines and take proper actions
  • Render surface, shafts and underground audits as well as inspections on occupational Hygiene matters at mines and provide appropriate written and verbal instructions
  • Consult, investigate and make recommendations to other departments on closure Certificates prospecting rights, mining permits and rights, township and EMP’s developments
  • Gather regional reports and give inputs to Head Office on the revision of Occupational Hygiene related regulations
  • Draft guidelines and standard directives, exemptions, instructions and permission
