South African students with excellent academic performance and are in need of funding to support their tertiary studies can now apply for the Gauteng Provincial Department of Human Settlements Bursary 2019. Up to 18 different fields of study are available for this award program. Read on to find out if your subject interest is one of them.

Gauteng Provincial Department of Human Settlements, also often shortened as GDHS intends to build sustainable communities as well as provide the communities with access to affordable housing options. The department is responsible for delivering housing which provides housing products to middle income, low income, and high income earners, through their Mixed Housing Development program.

This year, South African students who lack financial means to attend their tertiary studies are encouraged to apply for the Gauteng Provincial Department of Human Settlements Bursary 2019. This bursary is available for the following study programs:

  • Urban and Rural Studies
  • Town and Regional Planning
  • Surveying
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Property Economics
  • Landscape Technology
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Land Surveying
  • Human Settlements Qualifications
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Environmental Planning and Development
  • Developmental Planning Studies
  • Construction Science
  • Construction Management
  • Civil Engineering
  • Building surveying
  • Architectural Technology
  • Architectural Studies

The award will cover students’ registration and tuition fees, study materials, prescribed textbooks as well as accommodation. It is also required that the successful candidates enter into a bursary contract with the Department.

Entry requirements

  • Must be South African citizens between the age of 18 and 35 years old
  • Must reside in Gauteng province
  • Must be currently in Matric or have finished Matric
  • Must be studying or plan on studying as full time students in one of the above undergraduate programs at an Institution of Higher Learning within Gauteng area
  • Must have strong academic record
  • Must not be in receipt of another award/bursary/financial assistance from other organisations
  • Students with disabilities can apply
  • Students from disadvantaged backgrounds will receive preference

Don’t forget to attach clear copies of the following supporting documents:

  • Certified copy of ID document, matric latest results (current matric applicants) or matric certificate (if already graduated) or latest academic record (current tertiary students)
  • Admission letter issued by an Institution of Higher Learning
  • Parents/guardians bank statements and proof of income such as latest payslips or affidavit
  • Proof of residence such as statement of water and lights or rates account
