Learnership Details
Should you be interested in applying for the Learnership program at Fire Training Academy 2019, please quote the reference number of this advert within your application form (SS 60/18). The successful candidates will receive an allowance amounting to R 4,405.68 every month. The purpose of this program is for successful applicants to successfully complete the necessary and required training for Fire Fighters. Below are the specific information of this program:

To be eligible for this program, candidates must satisfy the following minimum eligibility requirements:
- A national senior certificate (school/ FET College/ vocational) level 4 with maths as a passed subject
- Candidates must not be older than 35 years old and must not be younger than 18 years old
- Must not suffer from claustrophobia or acrophobia (fear of confined space or heights)
- Must be physically and medically fit
- Must have the ability to cope with stressful situations and work in a team
- Must be drug free and have no criminal record
- A valid code 8 driver’s license (not mandatory but certainly preferable)
- Must be currently unemployed
- Must be South African citizens who reside in Cape Metropole (please attach proof within your application)
- Must not be participating in any learnership program
- Must not be undertaking any study from February 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020
Mandatory physical and written assessment to pass:
- Reach test (1,9 m)
- Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- 2,4 km run (13 min for female candidates and 11 for male)
- 30 sits-up in 1 min
- Acrophobia test by successfully climb 3 stories and return to ground level on a ladder supported against a wall)
- Dead load carries (2 x 25 kg over a 100m distance)
- Claustrophobia test by successfully the confined space circuit while unassisted
- Behavioural assessment and medical evaluation
- Written assessment (comprehension pass mark must be 70% and maths 50%)
Candidates will also have the opportunity to take up a non-permanent contract position upon completion of the program. During the learnership, candidates will be required to wear a uniform. It is mandatory that applicants are able to complete all the functions of the fire fighter post.
