High-achieving students who have passion in the Commerce or IT sector and wish to attend tertiary study in either of those programs are now welcome to apply for the Eric and Charmaine Mabuza bursary program for South African students. Persons under 35 years old are eligible to apply!
Bursary Details
Established in 1999 by Adv. Charmaine Mabuza and Eric Mabuza, The Eric and Charmaine Mabuza Schoalrship Foundation aims to help the South African youth from remote rural areas and disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their dreams and have access to quality education. The foundation believes that education is the solution to stopping the cycle of poverty. Since the first time it was founded, the foundation has played a major role in the education of many South African students. The Eric and Charmaine Mabuza bursary program for South African students is open for students interested in furthering their study in either Commerce or IT sector.
The award will cover tuition costs, accommodation, study materials as well as meals. Should the accommodation not include meals then there will also be an allowance for qualified students.
Furthermore, candidates may be required to do the following things upon completion of their studies:
- Give back to the community as well as continue practicing the vision and mission of the scholarship foundation
- Attend events held by scholarship foundation
- Participate in activities conducted by the alumni of the scholarship foundation
Applicant criteria
- Must be South African citizen
- Must have completed matric
- Under 35 years of age
- Must intend on studying or be studying towards an IT or Commerce qualification and have been accepted to study at any South African tertiary institution
- Candidates who are currently studying must be in their first year of study and about to enter their second year at the University
- Candidates must have achieved at least average of 65% on every subject and at least overall average of 70% in their previous year of study
- Must be from a previously disadvantaged background
- Must be willing to give back to the community
- Must be diligent, enthusiastic, and have a will to succeed
- Must be dedicated to their studies and willing to meet the academic requirements stipulated by the Foundation
- Have a yearly income below R 250,000

- Proof of income if applicants are currently employed
- A motivational letter outlining your reason why you deserve this award
- Certified copies of parents/guardians ID
- Proof of income of parents/guardians (SASSA letter/latest payslip if employed/affidavit if unemployed/proof of UIF)
- Affidavit must include parents/guardians full name & surname, ID number, ID number of candidates, contact details, physical address, their employment status and how they are related to the candidates
