Being unemployed can be hard, especially if you just recently graduated and have no job experience to enter the labour market. But you don’t have to waste time, there is always a chance to learn and grow even when you are unemployed. One of such way is to participate in Training Programmes. We have good news, currently City Powers is commencing the recruiting programme for it’s Skill Development Grant, aimed at the unemployed South African Youth.

Programme Description

Position: Trainee
Recruiter: City Power Johannesburg
Type: Training Programme
Location: Johannesburg

Duties

If you successfully joined the City Power Training Programme, you will participate in the Infrastructure Skills Development Grant (ISDG) Programme. This programme recruit unemployed youth that graduates from acknowledged Universities or Universities of Technology with at least three (3) years of fixed term contract.

In this programme you will receive training and obtain the chance to professionalise with the statutory councils.

Eligibility and Requirements

This programme is aimed for the unemployed South African youth, so you must be between the age of 18 and 35 years to apply.

Moreover, you must completed your education in one of the following programmes:

  • BSc / BEng / Bing / BTech Electrical Engineering
  • BSc / BEng / Bing Civil Engineering
  • BSc / National Diploma Quantity Surveyor
  • ND Electrical Engineering (The category of applicants should be the previous Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Students at City Power)

City Power is an Employment Equity Employer, therefore preference for this programme will be given to candidates whose appointment will
enhance representativity, especially females and people with disabilities

Application

After that, you will need to prepare the following documents to complete your application:

  • Certified copies of your qualifications. International qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA.)
  • Transcripts of your statement of results
  • Certified copy of South African Identity document.

  • Step 1
    Applicants will download the application from through the City Power website, fill out all the required information, and submit the application form with all the supporting documents.
  • Step 2
    If the applicant successfully passed Step 1, they will undergo the assesment at City Power Head Offices. Applicants will be contacted by City Powers for pre-booking, in compliance with COVID-19 protocols. Assesment is in multiple choice form aimed to assess the applicant’s knowledge of City Power and the City of Johannesburg.
    A 100% pass rate will be required, please come prepared!
  • Step 3
    Applicants that passed the previous step will undergo a second round of assessment, also held at the City Power Head Offices. This will be an essay type assessment, aimed at assessing the applicant’s knowledge about City Power’s business operations.
    A 80% pass rate will be required, please come prepared!
