Job Overview
The future successful candidate will receive a salary amounting to R 299 709 annually. The notch will possibly be higher than the one stated in this post in accordance with Section 23 of the IPID Act. To be considered for this job, applicants must hold Grade 12 certificate as the minimum educational requirement or its NQFL 4 equivalent or even a relevant degree/diploma in policing or law. Furthermore, it is expected that applicants should be in possession of at least three years of proven experience in criminal investigations. Candidates must also be in possession of a valid code 8 driver’s license (unendorsed) along with being able to drive a motor vehicle.
The Senior Investigator vacancy at IPID requires you to have the following skills and competencies:
- Knowledge of criminal procedure, criminal law as well as law of evidence (this aptitude is essential for consideration)
- Must be competent in written and verbal communication skills as well as report writing skills
- Must have computer literacy
- Be competent and fit to handle a firearm
- Be willing to perform overtime and standby duties
- Be willing to undergo a firearm test
The duties of a Senior Investigator will entail the following aspects:
- Be responsible for supervision of investigators as well as assistant investigator
- Be responsible for registration, receipt, and allocation of attendances of post mortems and crime scenes as well as complaints
- Attend to safeguarding, collection, and processing of exhibits at the crime scene
- Render interviews with witnesses and suspects
- Be responsible for the obtaining of affidavits
- Render investigations of complaints of alleged criminality
- Be responsible for advising the complainant or their next of kin along with other relevant stakeholders in terms of investigation progress
- Render investigations of misconduct against police members
- Be responsible for seizures, searches and collection of proofs, etc.
- Compile memoranda and investigation reports with recommendations to the Director of public prosecutions as well as SAPS for consideration to take appropriate disciplinary action or to prosecute
- Type and draft investigation reports at the conclusion of every investigation
- Update the status of every case on the database electronically
