Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) is a statutory research agency in South Africa where some researches are conducted. This HSRC was established in 1968 and it has been engaging with more than 500 staff members in doing 150 to 200 research projects annually. Consequently, as more and more illnesses or viruses exist, HSRC further offers 240 positions of nurse or phlebotomist to work well with.

Programme Description

Position: Nurse/ Phlebotomist

Salary: R26 250 per month (before deduction)

Duties

Moreover, being a nurse of phlebotomist will require you to have these following duties and responsibilities to handle.

·         Being responsible for the implementation of the survey by collecting data in the households using electronic tablets for interviewing participants

·         Attending training sessions in full

·         Providing potential participants information about the projects

·         Completing HTS consent forms for all participants

·         Working within a team

·         Collecting dried blood spots (DBS) from children and adults and via heel prick from infants (for the professional nurse)

·         Ensuring the quality work by following processes, steps, and procedures

·         Managing assets provided by HSRC

·         Also, managing fieldwork expenses by completing reconciliations by following HSRC regulations and rules

Requirements

In addition, to qualify for HSRC vacancies, all applicants must have satisfied with these following requirements.

·         All applicants must be a nurse or phlebotomist with relevant qualifications

·         The applicants must be currently registered with the South African Nursing Council

·         For professional training in nursing or phlebotomy should permit participant to draw blood without supervision

·         The applicants must be willing to work in a team, travel long distances, and visit selected households during weekends and after hours

·         Having above average ability to read, write, and also speak in English and other South African languages spoken is compulsory

·         Being familiar with the use of electronic tablet is essential

·         Having a valid driver’s license will be a plus

·         Applicants who have relevant working experience in the community outside a clinic context will get a benefit

·         Having trained in HIV counselling and testing will be an advantage

·         The applicants must be able to complete the duration of the programme based on the availability of maps per province

·         Black, female, or people with disability are encouraged to apply

·         Finally, the applicants must have proven ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters

·         A signed affidavit made at SAPS including your full name, ID number, list of qualifications, and stating under oath that you have reached the aforementioned qualifications

·         Certified copy of identity document

·         A South African Revenue Service (SARS) tax number or proof of application for SARS tax number

·         Certified copy of South African driver’s license (front and back)
