Duties

In this following, these are the core duties that the household aid will be dealing with in the duration of their work.

Household Aid – Vredenburg Hospital

• Ensuring high standard of the hygiene, safety, and cleanliness of the hospital is maintained
• Handling clean and dirty linen when necessary
• Handling waste based on infection control principles and also procedures
• Serving meals and beverage to patients
• Assisting during the routine stock control of linen and other non-surgical equipment
• Providing optimal support to colleagues and supervisor
• Assisting with loading and off-loading stock

Household Aid – Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital

• Having the full responsibility of cleaning duties including sweeping, disting, emptying dust bins, mopping,, scrubbing, cleaning windows and toilets
• Doing the medical waste handling and also maintenance of the general neatness based on OSH and IPC policies
• Performing the servings of patients’ meals
• Cleaning both crockery and cutlery based on HACCP principles and policies
• Maintaining and safekeeping of the supplies and equipment of the hospital
• Attending in-service training
• Providing support for the supervisor related to the general housekeeping duties
• Handling linen (dirty, clean, soiled, packed), counting, and packing

Requirements

To be eligible for the jobs, there are some requirements to complete that all applicants must have as follows.

• Having basic numeracy and literacy skills is a must
• Having appropriate experience in relevant field of cleaning hospital is necessary
• The applicants must be able to do physical hard work and stand for hours
• The applicants must have the willingness to work in shifts, overtime, and during weekends and holiday
• Having good interpersonal skills is essential
• The applicants must have communication skills in two official languages of Western Cape
• Having appropriate knowledge of how to use the cleaning equipment, detergents, materials and stock is an obligatory
