Description

HORTGRO is a company that focuses on technology and research, transformation, production, communication and markets in the deciduous fruit industry. The company’s main objective is to direct and guide research in the fruit industry and to address the industries long term and short term needs. Members of this company include SASPA, DFTS, and SAAPPA. The HORTGRO bursary for South African students are aimed for academically deserving students every year. As of today, the HORTGRO has provided up to R 35 million for the funding of agricultural workforce.

The bursary is available in the following study subjects:

  • Water/soil science
  • Agricultural economics
  • Research and technical
  • Genetics
  • Biochemistry
  • Horticulture
  • Entomology and nematology
  • Microbiology
  • Plan pathology

The award will include: tuition fees up to a limited amount, prescribed books up to a limited amount and accommodation on tertiary campus.

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be eligible for the bursary, interested candidates are required to meet all of the following entrance requirements. It is important to note that failure in complying with all of these important requirements will result in your application not being taken into consideration for the award.

  • Applicants must be a South African citizens
  • Applicants must have completed Matric or are currently in matric
  • Applicants must be registered students or intend to register at a recognised South African tertiary institution
  • Candidates must meet all the admission requirements for their chosen course of study
  • Candidates must intend on studying or are currently studying in one of the aforementioned fields

Application procedure

To commence your application, you must download and complete the application form here. Furthermore, you are required to submit clear copies of these supporting documents accompanied by your completed application form.

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of matric certificate (if already completed it)
  • Certified copy of matric latest results if currently still in Matric
  • Contact information of 2 contactable referees (lecturer or school principal)
  • Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
  • If you are at a tertiary level, submit certified copies of your latest tertiary academic results (3 latest progress reports)
  • Comprehensive breakdown of study fees (books, tuition and accommodation)
  • Evidence of tertiary registration (on tertiary letterhead)
  • Parents/guardians evidence of income (affidavit if unemployed and latest payslips if employed
