DCS Learnership 2023 Application is Now Open!

It’s the most waiting learnership opportunity for most South African students. We are waiting for an opening application for the Department of Correction Services Learnership for about the last five years. Today is good news for all. DPSA has just released DPSA Circular 01 of 2023, the first public service vacancies document in 2023.

Inside the DPSA vacancies document, we found joyful information that the Department of Correction Services (DCS) is now opening learnership applications for 2023. The DCS is hiring youth South Africans from various backgrounds with relevant qualifications to join the training program to pursue the Further Education and Training (FET) Certificate through Correctional Services Learnership (NQF Level 4).

The successful candidates will be trained in the rehabilitation areas through correction and human development in secure, safe, and human detention or under community-based correctional supervision. The learnership training programme will be conducted in the English language. Although you successfully participate in this learnership programme, it doesn’t mean you will be hired as a permanent employee in the DCS or other government institutions.

DCS Learnership Programme 2023

Programme Name: The FET Certificate in Corrections Services Learnership in DCS (NQF Level 4)
Learnership Duration: 12 months
Monthly Stipend: DCS Learnership stipend will be R3738,25 per month.

DCS Learnership Requirements

Before applying for DCS Learnership 2023, you must meet the learnership requirements listed below.

  • You are South Africans who are in possession of a Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate;
  • You are South Africans who have completed the National Certificate in Vocational Studies (NQF Level 4) or completed a Further Education and Training (FET) Certificate (NQF Level 4);
  • You are South African with a diploma/degree certificate in these fields of study: Corrections/Penology/Criminology, Agriculture (including Agriculture Economists, Agriculture Engineering, Agriculture Management, Animal Health Technicians, Animal Production, Plant Production), Artisans (all fields, especially Baker/Pastry Maker, Boiler Maker, Bricklayer, Cabinet maker, Construction Carpenter, Electrician, Fitter and Turner, Furniture Machinist/Polisher, Gunsmith, Locksmith, Millwright, Painter, Patternmaker, Plumber, Sheet Metal, Spray Painting, Tool, and Die Maker, Upholstery, Welder, Wood Machinist), Construction Health and Safety Technicians, Food Processing (General Abattoir Processes, Meat Inspector/Examination, Processed and Preserved Meat, Fish, Fruit, and Vegetables), Graphic Designers, Two-way Radio Communication Technicians, Textile Designing (Garment Makers/Tailor/Seamster, Footwear Design, and Shoe Making).
  • Applicants must undergo physical and medical tests (including a drug test) as part of the selection process;
  • Applicants are they are in between 21 and 35 years;
  • Applicants must have strong character, and be fit physically and mentally; and
  • Applicants must be clear in criminal records.

DCS Learnership 2023 Benefits

Here are some benefits for learners during the DCS Learnership Programme 2023:

  • Learners will receive about 30% theoretical or instructional learning and 70% workplace learning;
  • Learners will get free accommodation, meals, training materials, and uniforms during the programme;
  • Learners will receive a monthly stipend; and
  • Successful learners will receive a FET Certificate in Correctional Services (NQF Level 4).
