Requirements
Furthermore, in order to be able to be eligible for the fire fighter learnership, all applicants have to fulfill the following requirements, as follows.
- Having Grade 12 qualifications (Mathematics and Physical Science is preferable) is mandatory
- The applicants must be in the age between 18 years and older
- The applicants must be medically and physically fit
- Also, all applicants must not suffer from any fear of heights or spaces
- Having no criminal record is obligatory
- Being able to work in a team and cope with a stressful situations is compulsory
- Lastly, all applicants must have successfully completed the Firefighter 1, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, and First Aid Level 3 courses presented by the learning institution

Accordingly, the shortlisted candidates will have to undertake a compulsory fitness test with this specification.
- Reach test (1.9 m)
- 4 km run (males 11 minutes and females 13 minutes)
- Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- Dead load carries (2 x 25 kg drums over a distance of 100 m)
Furthermore, the applicants also need to undertake written assessment, interview, compulsory drug test, and also City medical evaluation. All applicants must have passed on all assessments in order to be eligible for the learnership. Not having heard from the recruiter three months after the due date, you can assume that your application was not successful.
