Sasol Limited was formed in 1950 in Sasolburg, South Africa. It has since then been the very first oil-from-foal company. Sasol is integrated chemical and energy firm that has more than 30,000 employees across the globe.

This year, the company will be awarding bursaries to high achieving and deserving students who wish to undertake the following studies:

  • Undergraduate level:
  • Metallurgy (Hons compulsory) (BSc)
  • Geology (Hons compulsory) (BSc)
  • Chemistry (Masters compulsory) (BSc)
  • Mining Engineering (BSc/BEng)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BEng/BSc)
  • Industrial Engineering (BEng/BSc)
  • Electronic Engineering (BEng/BSc)
  • Electrical Engineering (BEng/BSc)
  • Civil Engineering (BEng/BSc)
  • Chemical Engineering (BEng/BSc)
  • Postgraduate level:
  • Chemical Engineering (PhD/Masters)
  • Chemistry (PhD/Masters)
  • University of Technology studies:
  • Process Instrumentation
  • Mine Surveying
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering

Qualified students will receive full coverage for the following expenses:

  • Undergraduate students: tuition fees, exam fees, registration fees, accommodation (of a single room in university residence or equal amount to stay in other accommodation), an allowance for books and pocket money (approx. R 12,000 annually) and meal allowance
  • Postgraduate students: an allowance of approx. R 10,000 every month for up to 24 months (master’s students) and 36 months (doctoral students)

Upon the completion of their studies, students will be required to enter a service-binding contract with the Sasol Group (work back obligation). The duration of employment will be the same as the amount of time they received their award.

Suitability:

  • South African citizen
  • Current matric student or completed matric
  • Intend on studying or currently studying full time in one of the aforementioned programs at an accredited South African University or University of Technology
  • Current matric students: obtained 70% (level 6) for Maths, 50% (level 5) for English and 70% (level 6) for Science
  • Current University students: passed all subjects for the period of study already completed
  • Current University of Technology students: obtained level 5 for Maths, English and Science
  • Must have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in their chosen field of study

  • A research project proposal and summary of the proposed project (for postgraduate students)
