The SASSA/Postbank Gold Card is a payment card issued to recipients of social grants in South Africa. SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) is responsible for administering social grants, while Postbank is the banking division of the South African Post Office that manages the payment of these grants. The SASSA/Postbank Gold Card is used to access social grant payments and can be used to withdraw cash or make purchases at merchants that accept Mastercard. Collect a New SASSA/Postbank Gold Card
To collect a new SASSA/Postbank Gold Card, you need to provide the following:
- South African Identity Document
- Current expiring SASSA/Postbank Gold Card
Collection Process at Post Office Branch
Post Office branch staff will guide you through the following process:
- Activating the new card
- Selecting a new PIN
- Making withdrawals or any other type of transactions
Collection Requirements
New SASSA/Postbank Gold cards will only be issued at Post Offices to the person in whose name the expiring card has been issued. No person will be able to collect a SASSA/Postbank Gold Card on behalf of another unless they are registered with SASSA as a procurator.

Lost or Misplaced SASSA/Postbank Gold Card
If you have lost or misplaced your SASSA/Postbank Gold Card expiring in March 2023, follow these steps:
- Go to a nearby Post Office branch
- Post Office branch personnel will use fingerprint verification to issue you with a new SASSA/Postbank Gold Card.
Reminder
Grants recipients are reminded that only people that have SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards that expire in March 2023 are required to visit the Post Office branches to collect new cards during this month.
