City of Johannesburg (CoJ) opens an opportunity to join City of Johannesburg Student Internship. 

With the need to have experienced graduates to join career life, CoJ creates internship opportunities for graduate students. 

In the internship programme, students will be able to learn professional skills and how to work professionally. This will gradually help them to gain professional skills and add to their credentials.

That is to say, students will have their working chances opened wider and more opportunities will come to them.

Programme Description

There are two internship opportunities from Planning Department as follow:

  • Branch: Regulatory and Management Support

Internship: Finance

Salary:

(Qualification completed with min 360 credits) R8 620.79 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits)

(Enrolled as a student): R3 500.00 pm (Basic salary, no benefits)

Location: 158 Civic Boulevard, Metro Centre, Braamfontein

Duration: NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months

Type: Temporary

  •  Branch: Building Development Management

Internship: IT

Salary:

(Qualification completed with min 360 credits): R8 620.79 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits)

(Enrolled as a student): R3 500.00 pm (Basic salary, no benefits)

Location: 158 Civic Boulevard, Metro Centre, Braamfontein

Duration: NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months

Duties

The duties of each internships are as follow:

  • Branch: Regulatory and Management Support

The duties are to offer financial administration support to Operational Manager: Finance in ensuring that all financial administrative functions of the Finance unit are met in compliance with MFMA, City of Johannesburg policies and applicable accounting standards.

Key Performance Areas:

  1. Assist with coordination and monitoring and accounting for assets.
  2. Support Officer Supply Chain and procurement.
  3. Support Officer Budget and Accounting.
  • Branch: Building Development Management

To be an administrator for the Town Planning System (TAS). TAS is an integrated system within Development Planning and other Municipal Owned Entities (MEs) within the City of Johannesburg. The main duties are to manage users, system issues and enhancements of TAS.

Key Performance Areas:

  1. Manage large datasets, perform data analysis and produce reports.
  2. Enable LUDM to provide knowledge and skills transfer.

Minimum Requirement:

  1. Matric / Grade 12 plus a Diploma / degree in Finance or equivalent qualification registered at SAQA 6/7;
  2. Computer literacy – MS Office Applications;
  3. Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.

Leading Competencies:

  1. Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  2. Communication (verbal and written) skills 
  3. Organising skills.

Core Competencies:

  1. Problem analysis and solving.
  2. Office administration procedures.
  3. Customer service.
  •  Branch: Building Development Management

Minimum Requirement:

  1. Matric/Grade 12 plus a Diploma/degree in Information Technology or equivalent qualification registered at SAQA 6/7;
  2. Understanding of ICT Systems;
  3. Computer literacy – MS Office Applications;
  4. Only City of Joburg residents will be considered.

Leading Competencies:

  1. Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  2. Communication (verbal and written) skills ;
  3. Organising skills;
  4. Ability to use tools of the trade;
  5. Good physical health to service legislative (long hours when facilitating and making presentations;
  6. Attention to detail and diligence.
