As a Trainee Security Engineer for Shoprite, there are a variety of tasks that interns can expect to be involved in during their internship. These tasks are designed to provide interns with the tools and knowledge necessary to become successful Security Engineers.
The primary responsibility of a Security Engineer Intern is to assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s security systems and protocols. This includes developing and maintaining access control systems, identifying and responding to potential security threats, and ensuring that security protocols are adhered to across all areas of the business. Additionally, interns will be involved in the testing and validation of security systems, as well as the development of security policies and procedures with the Shoprite CyberSecurity Team.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in the implementation and development of the company’s security systems.
• Monitor networks and systems for security incidents.
• Participating in the forensics of security incidents.
• Performing security reviews of new and existing services (IT, OT, Cloud, and Software).
• Assist with the installation or processing of new security products and procedures.
• Looking for opportunities to innovate and optimize security solutions.
• Support systems providing security features such as firewalls, and authentication.
• Liaising/consulting internally with teams on security findings to solve vulnerabilities.
• Monitoring application and audit logging for security anomalies.
• Research and evaluate security technologies and methods for recommendations to clients
• Stay abreast with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and controls.
Educational requirements:
- Grade 12.
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a related field.
- Post Graduate Degree in the above or related fields (highly beneficial).
Experience requirements:
- Linux toolset and Microsoft Operating systems and/or scripting i.e., Bash or PowerShell.
- Cloud environment i.e., AWS, Azure or GCP, etc.
- Programming i.e., C#, Python, Java, PHP, Perl, etc.
- Proficiency in MS Office 365 with basic Excel skills.
- Basic knowledge of ISO 27001, and WLA-SCS (beneficial).
