SAPS Police Trainee 2024/2025 Intake

Position: Police Trainee
Remuneration:
- Institution Phase (Basic Training in the Academies): Stipend of R4500 per month
- Probation Phase (After Training in the Academies): Salary notch of R216,033 per annum
Additionally, appointed candidates will receive relevant service benefits during the probation phase. Successful candidates will serve as Police Trainees under a contract basis as governed by the SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995).
Core Functions:
Upon successfully completing the training, Police Trainees will be empowered to:
- Prevent, combat, and investigate crime.
- Maintain public order.
- Protect and secure the inhabitants and property of the Republic.
- Uphold and enforce the law.
Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP):
Selected applicants will engage in a transformative 21-month Basic Police Development Learning Programme, comprising three phases:
- Induction Phase: One month at a designated police station; Stipend: R4500 per month.
- Basic Training Phase: Eight months of rigorous training at a designated SAPS Academy; Stipend: R4500 per month.
- Probation Phase: Following the successful completion of earlier phases, a 12-month Workplace Exposure Programme with a salary of R216,033 per annum.
During the Basic Training Phase, the SAPS will provide free training gear, accommodation, meals, and medical aid benefits for the entire duration. Completion of the Basic Training Learning Programme opens doors to potential permanent appointment as Constables within the SAPS.
Placement:
Upon completing the Institutional Phase, successful candidates will undergo specialized training at a prestigious SAPS Academy in South Africa. After this intensive training, they will be placed at various Police Stations and Units across the nation.
Requirements:
Aspiring applicants must:
- Possess permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa (documentary proof required).
- Hold a grade 12 school certificate or equivalent qualification (documentary proof required).
- Have a valid driver’s license for a light motor vehicle (advantageous).
- Be proficient in English and at least one other official language.
- Fall within the age range of 18 to 35 (documentary proof required).
- Be free of previous criminal convictions and willing to undergo fingerprinting and background checks.
- Not have visible tattoo marks while wearing the SAPS uniform.
- Be ready to take the oath of office and excel in physical and psychological assessments.
- Demonstrate a willingness to train and serve anywhere in South Africa.
Selection Process:
All applicants will undergo comprehensive fitness, psychometric, and integrity testing, as well as medical evaluation. Interviews will also be conducted during the recruitment process. SAPS will verify qualifications, driver’s licenses, citizenship, and residential addresses.
