A Preschool Assistant Teacher plays a crucial role in the early childhood education system, contributing to the growth and development of young children during their formative years. The primary responsibility of a Preschool Assistant Teacher is to support the lead teacher in creating a positive and enriching learning environment for preschool-aged children, typically between the ages of 3 and 5 years old.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Care:
- Assist in implementing a curriculum that focuses on play-based learning, promoting the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children.
- Provide individualized attention to each child, recognizing and addressing their unique needs.
- Safety and Environment:
- Ensure a safe and hygienic environment for children, including maintaining cleanliness and implementing safety protocols.
- Create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning, exploration, and creativity.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the lead teacher and other staff members to plan and execute educational activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a cohesive and positive team environment.
- Flexibility:
- Be flexible in working with children of different age groups, adapting teaching methods to meet the developmental needs of each child.
- Communication:
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with both children and parents.
- Keep parents informed about their child’s progress, behavior, and any other relevant information.
- Initiative and Direction:
- Strike a fine balance between taking initiative and following the lead teacher’s guidance.
- Contribute to a dynamic and engaging learning atmosphere.
- Conflict Resolution:

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Preschool Assistant Teacher position, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- ECD NQF level 4 or higher, or currently studying towards a childcare qualification
- Experience working with children between 4 months and 5 years of age
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience with preschool-aged children
- Clear criminal record
- Reside in close proximity to the school
- First Aid certification (preferred)
- Vaccination certificate (preferred)
