Job Positions/Locations/Ref Numbers: Casual Store Cleaner X4 – Cape Road, Port Elizabeth

Dis-Chem is currently seeking four dedicated individuals to join our team as Casual Store Cleaners at our Cape Road store in Port Elizabeth. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of various areas within the store, including the store floor, stock room, dispensary, admin office, and canteen.

The role of a store cleaner is critical to maintaining a clean, hygienic, and organized environment within a retail or commercial setting. Store cleaners play a vital part in creating a positive and inviting atmosphere for both customers and employees. While specific duties may vary based on the type and size of the store, as well as company policies, the general responsibilities of a store cleaner include:

  1. Overall Cleanliness: Store cleaners are responsible for ensuring the overall cleanliness of the entire store. This involves cleaning various areas such as the sales floor, stock rooms, offices, restrooms, and communal spaces.
  2. Routine Cleaning: Establishing and following routine cleaning schedules to ensure that all areas of the store are consistently maintained at a high standard of cleanliness. This includes tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
  3. Restroom and Canteen Maintenance: Ensuring that restrooms and canteen areas are clean, well-stocked, and meet hygiene standards. This is crucial for providing a comfortable and sanitary environment for both customers and employees.
  4. Health and Safety Compliance: Adhering to health and safety regulations to create a safe working and shopping environment. This includes using appropriate cleaning products and equipment, as well as following guidelines to prevent accidents, such as using “wet floor” signs.
  5. Customer Interaction: In some cases, store cleaners may have direct interaction with customers. Being friendly, approachable, and professional is essential, as cleaners may be approached for assistance or inquiries.
  6. Attention to Detail: Paying close attention to detail is crucial in the role of a store cleaner. This ensures that every corner of the store is thoroughly cleaned, contributing to an overall positive impression of the establishment.
  7. Flexibility with Hours: Store cleaners are often required to work outside regular business hours. This flexibility is necessary to perform cleaning tasks when the store is closed or during non-peak hours to minimize disruption.
  8. Physical Fitness: The job may require physical tasks such as lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Physical fitness and the ability to perform these tasks are important qualifications for a store cleaner.
  9. Communication Skills: While not always a primary requirement, having basic communication skills is beneficial. This is especially true in cases where cleaners may need to communicate with other staff members or, as mentioned in the job posting, assist customers.
