Job Description

This internship program at the Government Communication and Information System is available for candidates who have never participated in any internship program before. The qualified incumbents will be stationed in Hatfield, Pretoria. This program offers you a stipend that amounts to R 5000 for a 12 month contract. Below are the eligibility criteria for each available internship position you can apply:

  • Graphic Design (ref. no 3/1/5/1-18/7)

This position falls within Media Production directorate. The minimum requirement for this position is a National Diploma or NQF level 6 or at least 3 year degree (NQF level 7) in graphic design as recognized by SAQA. In order to be qualified for the position, candidates must possess the following skills and knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of printing and reprography
  • Strong design skills
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work overtime
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage priorities and multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Must be highly motivated
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Must be proficient in Adobe Illustrator
  • Must be proficient in Apple Macintosh computers
  • Ability to operate InDesign and photoshop (Web, 3D skills as well as animation will be an added advantage)
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative design concepts
  • Broadcast Journalist (ref. no 3/1/5/1-18/8)

This position falls under Media Production directorate (video unit). Candidates must at least hold a 3 year degree or national diploma or any of qualification equivalent to that in Journalism or Broadcast Journalism as recognized by SAQA. This position requires qualified internships who have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Good interviewing skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Have “on air presence” confidence in front of a camera
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Possess interest in current news and affairs
  • Ability to function independently or in a team
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must be proficient in the use of Apple Macintosh computer and in English language
  • Should comply to the code of conduct as stipulated by the SA Media Law
