The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture (DSAC) South Africa offers bursaries programme in 2023. The DSAC invites South African students to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that will be funded by this bursary programme. Applicants can apply for this bursary in accredited and registered universities or institutions.

DSAC Bursaries Eligibility

The DSAC provides bursaries to students who are passionate about pursuing study in the fields of heritage and related studies that will be expanded in the fields of study below.

To participate in the bursaries programme, applicants must be followed these eligibilities:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens;
  • Applicants must not be higher than 40 years old;
  • Applicants must be showing outstanding academic records in the current study from the institution or a Grade 12 transcript for the first-year students;
  • Applications must hold an acceptance letter from the institution;
  • Applicants are studying in one of the fields of study listed below;
  • Applicants must not be employed in any government institutions, state agencies, or private sector with more than R130 000 of salary;
  • Applicants who received another bursary in 2023 are not eligible to apply.

DSAC Bursaries Fields of Study

You are eligible to apply for DSAC Bursaries 2023 if you are registered in one of these fields of study:

  • Anthropology (exclusively with a focus on forensic/medical anthropology)
  • Archaeology (exclusively with a focus on marine and underwater cultural heritage, and forensics)
  • Archives and Records management
  • Conservation of the built environment including preventive conservation
  • Collections (cultural & natural) management (Not Nature Conservation)
  • Paleontology
  • Museum Studies or Management and Curatorship
  • IKS or Courses that contribute to the preservation and promotion of
  • Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and S.A. Living Heritage
  • Marketing of Heritage
  • Digital Heritage

The Benefits of The DSAC Bursaries

Here are some benefits if you are successfully accepted by DSAC Bursaries:

  • Successfully applicants will receive a bursary valued at R110 000 per student;
  • The total amount of study fees and prescribed books will be covered;
  • Applicants can buy a laptop, not over R10 000. This will be paid based on
    the buying invoices;
  • Accommodation will be covered where applicable with a maximum of R50 000;
  • Meals will be covered where applicable with a maximum of R18 500;
  • All funds are payable directly to the institution.

Closing date: 28 February 2023.

  1. Download and fill out the application form, then attached it in PDF and send it with the recent academic results, a certified copy of your ID, and a university acceptance letter or admission letter;
  2. Submit your application form and followed documents directly or by email. The address below is special for applicants who are studying at The University of Pretoria.
