Job Description

The Maintenance Investigators vacancies at Department of Justice and Constitutional Development are available at:

  • Magistrate Courts Howick (Ref No: 18/27C/KZN)
  • Umbumbulu Ref No: 18/29C/KZN

This position offers a salary that amounts from R 242 475 up to R 285 630 every year. The qualified candidates will be asked to sign a performance agreement. All the positions available require candidates to hold a Grade 12 certificate along with at least two year working experience in the relevant field; experience in Family Law Matters.

Furthermore, the department are seeking employees who have the following attributes:

  • Knowledge of the Maintenance Act 99 of 1998
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of computer literacy including MS word and excel

All the certificates that support the aforementioned courses must be attached within your application. Candidates are also required to have the following skills and competencies:

  • Numeracy skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop a comprehensive understanding of all procedures and services in the maintenance areas and other family law related areas
  • Ability to work with the public empathetically and professionally
  • Ability to explain legal processes and terminologies in simple language
  • Ability to develop good facilitation skills and manage time effectively
  • Ability to think innovatively and work under pressure
  • Ability to assist the court in the conducting of maintenance issues for the court

Job Duties

Once you are qualified for this position, you will be involved in, but not limited to, the following key performance areas:

  • Secure and collect information relevant to maintenance defaulters and enquiries
  • Trace persons who are liable to maintenance defaulters and pay maintenance
  • Testify in court under the control and supervision of maintenance prosecutors or maintenance officers
  • Conduct any administrative support to the office
  • Render outdoor function that requires physical tracing capabilities
  • Render any other administrative functions as needed from time to time
  • Serve documents on respondents/complainants/employers/banks/etc
