Founded in 2000, the City of Ukurhueni Metropolitan Municipality was established in order to replace the Khayalami Metropolitan Council, the Eastern Gauteng Services Council along with previous administrations. The word Ekurhuleni means ‘place of peace’ in XiTsonga and falls within one of the 5 districts in Gauteng. This year, South Africans who reside in the city are welcome to apply for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality bursary program 2019. This program is open for candidates to earn Certificate/National Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree qualification within the following fields:

Entry requirements:

  • South African citizens or permanent residents no older than 35 years old
  • Reside in Ekurhuleni
  • Have total household income under R 600 000 annually
  • Plan to study or studying as a full time student (undergraduate only)

Application process

Complete the application form and submit it along with the following mandatory supporting documents:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of residence permit (if applicable)
  • Certified copy of proof of residence within Ekurhuleni in the form of Municipal account
  • Certified copy of matric certificate if finished matric or matric latest results if still in matric
  • Certified copy of proof of registration at a university/tertiary institute if applicable
  • Outstanding municipal accounts and study fees
  • A motivation letter
  • Parents or guardians proof of income or death certificate if deceased

Submit to one of the following:

  • Youth offices at the CCCs
  • Customer Care Centres (CCCs)
  • City public libraries

Forward before December 14, 2018 as no late submissions will be taken into consideration. Candidates will be chosen based on academic merit and financial need. Note that, correspondence for this bursary program will be limited to applicants who are shortlisted. That being said, if you do not receive any feedback within four weeks after the deadline has passed, please take it to mean your application as being unsuccessful.

Should you be current bursary recipients and are interested in this opportunity, you do not have to reapply each year.
