AON Bursary Program for South Africans

Up to three bursaries provided by AON are now open for applications. South African citizens who wish to further their studies in Risk Management or Economics qualification are encouraged to apply. The AON bursary program for South Africans will also provide the opportunity for qualified applicants to jump start their career within the Insurance industry.

Bursary summary

AON plc was established in 1982 by Patrick Ryan as the result of a merger between the Combined Insurance Company of America and the Ryan Insurance Group. However, it wasn’t until 1987 that the company finally altered its name to AON which literally means “one” in the Gaelic language.

The professional services firm provides health consulting, retirement and risk services. Its headquarters is located in London, UK. The companies now have six core capabilities: risk; data and analytics; capital; retirement; health; talent.

As of today, the company has up to 500 offices all around the world, in 120 countries and have over 50,000 staff members. AON in South Africa now has over 700 staff members who operate in eight provinces and within 12 local offices. The AON South Africa is one of the top providers of risk consulting, insurance broking and reinsurance broking, employee benefit solutions, for business, employees and personal insurance.

This year, the company is honoured to offer the AON bursary program for South Africans in which top three qualified candidates. The bursary is open to undergraduate students who are in their second or third year or Honours degree students. The eligible fields of study are Economics and Risk Management. As for the value of the bursary, once the deserving candidates have been chosen, the fees covered by the award will be determined.

Eligibility criteria

Before submitting an application, make sure you fulfil all of the following minimum entrance requirements for the program so as to make sure your application will be taken into account during the evaluation process.

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying as a full time student towards a degree qualification majoring in Economics or Risk Management (2nd, 3rd or Honours students only)
  • You must have excellent academic record
  • You must be studying at a recognised South African tertiary institute

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • A CV
  • Certified copy of matric certificate
  • Certified copy of full academic record from a tertiary institution you are currently registered in

Applications must be done and completed no later than January 18, 2019. No late submissions will be taken into consideration. Therefore, it is your responsibility as an applicant to ensure timely submission.
